About

The Dirty Habits Tobacco-Free College Initiative is a comprehensive, online social marketing and grassroots education and advocacy initiative targeted to, and fueled by Louisiana college students. Through online social networks, contests, media, and events, Dirty Habits is a new take on the smoke-free movement. It's about exposing the truths while keeping things dirty, honest, and easy to get involved with.

College students are being targeted aggressively by a deceptive tobacco industry that seeks to recruit and maintain them as life-long tobacco users. But Louisiana universities are working to combat the industry's sneaky tactics with a statewide, college campus and social networking initiative that builds on the success of the Louisiana Smoke-Free Air Act and empowers students to quit or never start using tobacco.

These student networks will lead the charge to create 100% tobacco-free campuses by establishing student coalitions and raising support for tobacco-free campus policies. By participating in annual statewide tobacco awareness events such as Kick Butts Day (April), World No Tobacco Day (May) and the Great American Smoke-out (November) and utilizing social networks like Facebook, Myspace, and YouTube, we're are educating and motivating fellow students to kick this dirty habit for good.
