(Pretoria, South Africa) – As the fight to be Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour Champion heats up between bikeflipping Tom Pagès (FRA), Levi Sherwood (NZL) and king of the double backflip Josh Sheehan (AUS) the City of Tshwane is preparing itself to play host to the world’s best Freestyle Motocross athletes. They’ll descend from all over the globe to the world final at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on 23 August 2014.

The city is no stranger to hosting large-scale events within its city limits having recently staged the inauguration of the President earlier this year.

“Hosting this world tour final in front of the 9 meter-tall statue of Madiba is a huge moment for the Capital City. We look forward to seeing the breathtaking tricks and awe-inspiring bike flips that the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour is known for,” said acting City Manager of Tshwane, Ms Lindiwe Kwele.

Head judge of the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour, South African Jason Moriarty is rather ecstatic that the tour makes its way to South Africa this year: “It’s been a long time coming and I’m so glad we finally get to bring Red Bull X-Fighters to my home country in 2014. It’s also the first world tour final on African Soil!”

“You can be sure you’re going to see a titanic battle of Freestyle Motocross featuring the best riders on the planet throwing down the craziest things you never even thought were possible, let alone on a motorbike. They’ll be putting their bodies on the line to win the World Final in front of a stalwart of South African history, the Union Buildings. “

Locals will have to get behind Nick de Wit who is the only South African competing in the stop. He competes as a wildcard in the event.

Tickets start from R295 and are available at www.redbullxfighters.com.

About Red Bull X-Fighters

Created back in 2001, the Red Bull X-Fighters concept has grown to become the biggest and most respected freestyle motocross tour on the planet, featuring the world’s best riders throwing down mad tricks in stunning locations across the globe. The best FMX riders in the world are set to step it up once again and push the sport forward as they visit brand new locations and bring the sport of freestyle motocross to new countries around the globe.

The World Tour 2014 kicked off in Mexico City (MEX) on 14 March. Events in Osaka (25 May/JPN), Madrid (27 Juni/ESP), Munich (19 July/GER) followed, before the World Tour stops in Pretoria (23 August/RSA) for the first tour-final in Africa.

About Nick de Wit

Nick de Wit’s rise to world stardom started where all FMX careers necessarily do, on the Motocross track. Somewhat of a late starter, De Wit started riding at age 15 and went on to win the South African 125B Championship two years after that. He raced MX for about five years before taking to FMX.

De Wit was one of the FMX pioneers in South Africa and largely responsible for the following it has in the country today. Not only has he maintained the number one position in South Africa for as long as anyone cares to remember, but has also placed fifth in the World Rankings and fourth in two separate World Cup events.

With the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour making it’s final stop in South Africa, 2014 is bound to be Nick de Wit’s biggest year. De Wit was the first African to compete in Red Bull X-Fighters, when he took to the sky as a wildcard at the Egypt event in 2010.
