Jordy Smith Movie: Bending Colours

Jordy sure knows how to throw a party. And with an open bar of Tequila, Vodka, Redbull and Corona, you kinda know it’s gonna be a big one.

Here’s a review from Surfing Magazine’s Beau Flemister. I would love to give my own, but the Tequila was flowing thick by the time to flick started…

“South Africa’s, Jordy Smith, just released a new bio-watch-me-rip-pic called Bending Colours. It’s rad. Kai Neville, maestro of such hits Modern Collective, Lost Atlas, Dear Suburbia, made the film, along with Red Bull Media House, or maybe it’s the other way around. Anywho, Bending is mean. Prior to this, I’d personally thought Jordy was slowing down a little. Wouldn’t say peaked, but he just seemed really focused on Tour life. Like, whenever I’d call him for a sesh after work, or a movie or something, he was always busy. So annoying. It also seemed like he was losing that “so much to prove and nothing to lose” attitude he was famous for when he got on tour. But Bending Colours gave me a swift donkey punch to the back of the head for that misconception.

Because of the Phantom cam, the ultra clean look of the film is very Art of FLIGHT, thanks to Red Bull. But make no mistake, Jordy’s clips are all top shelf Neville nuggets. Jordy’s at-home footage from South Africa is amazing, emerald tubes and air-wind sections. The Bali part is phenomenal and shows his whole range from full-rotation oops to functional finners to ‘roided out gaffs. Cameos by Josh Kerr and John John. God…John John. The J-Bay part’s a lil redundant, but then we get to Reunion Island. Buuuuull shit. Yes, we printed a feature based off this same trip a few months ago — the duel between Jordy and Julian Wilson at that right in Reunion from Mod Col. A worthy preview. But the actual footage from it, as presented in Bending, is worth the whole 49 cents or whatever the film costs on iTunes, just to watch that part. Sickening.”
